What is this Stotram?

Aditya Hridayam is a sacred hymn from the Valmiki Ramayana (Yuddha Kanda, Chapter 107), taught by the great sage Agastya to Lord Ram just before his final battle with Ravana. "Aditya" means the Sun, and "Hridayam" means the heart — making it literally "the heart-secret of the Sun God." It is one of the most powerful and scientifically revered stotrams in Hinduism.

Simple Meaning

When Ram stood exhausted and worried before the mighty Ravana, sage Agastya descended from the heavens and revealed this secret Sun hymn. The stotram praises Surya (the Sun) as the source of all life, the destroyer of darkness, the soul of the universe, and the embodiment of all gods — Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and the twelve Adityas. Chanting it three times gave Ram the divine energy to finally defeat Ravana.

Benefits of Chanting

  • Grants victory in battles, competitions, and legal matters
  • Destroys all enemies and removes negative forces from life
  • Gives immense physical energy, vitality, and good health
  • Removes depression, hopelessness, and mental darkness
  • Cures eye diseases and significantly improves eyesight
  • Ensures success in career, business, and all endeavors
  • Chanting 3 times as Agastya instructed ensures quick victory

Best Time to Chant

Aditya Hridayam must be recited at sunrise facing east. Sunday is the most auspicious day dedicated to Surya. The stotram is most effective when chanted exactly 3 times — as sage Agastya instructed Lord Ram. During Ratha Saptami (Sun worship festival) and solar eclipses, its recitation has special significance.
